ASSET partnership, coordinated by Diamyd Medical, concludes five-year innovation program with final conference on precision medicine and the future of screening
Diamyd Medical, ASSET coordinator, highlights the closing conference hosted by the Leading Health Care Foundation on September 23, 2026, in Stockholm, Sweden. The conference marks the culmination of five years of collaborative work exploring how artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches can enable earlier detection of type-1 diabetes as well as the regulatory and practical steps for implementing a precision health approach to type-1 diabetes in the Swedish healthcare system.
The conference, titled“Precision Medicine and the Future of Screening”, brings together healthcare professionals, decision-makers, researchers, representatives from the life science industry, patient organizations, public administrators and policymakers. The conference concludes the ASSET innovation project (AI for Sustainable Prevention of Autoimmunity in the Society), presenting key insights on data-driven individual risk predictions and practical strategies for screening in a clinical setting, lessons learned and future perspectives from the five-year program. ASSET was funded under the VINNOVA initiative on precision health.
“Over the past five years, ASSET has demonstrated the value of bringing together academia, healthcare providers and industry to address the challenge of early detection and prevention of type-1 diabetes,” says Anders Essen-Möller, CEO of Diamyd Medical. “The project has contributed to advancing discussions around precision screening, early detection and prevention, as well as for how innovative technologies can be translated into clinical practice, where Diamyd’s DiaTrapper risk assessment application under development, might become one such example.”
Among the invited speakers are Professor Parth Narendran of the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and Professor Emanuele Bosi of Università Vita Salute San Raffaele, Italy, who will share experiences and lessons learned from developments in screening and early detection of type-1 diabetes and associated autoimmune diseases in their respective countries. The innovation project ASSET (AI for Sustainable Prevention of Autoimmunity in the Society) is an industry-healthcare partnership that included MainlyAI, Lund University, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Örebro University Hospital, The Swedish National Diabetes Register, Leading Health Care Foundation and Diamyd Medical as project coordinator.
