Results from clinical studies with the Diamyd� diabetes vaccine were presented to the gathered European diabetes expertise at the annual meeting of the EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes), which concluded earlier today. In a well attended poster session on Monday, Carl-David Agardh presented the 5 year results from Diamyd's first Phase II trial with 47 LADA patients. His conclusion was that Diamyd� treatment appears safe long term and seem able to prevent LADA patients from progressing to a state requiring insulin therapy. Only 14 percent of the patients in the 20 �g Diamyd� dose group required insulin treatment after 5 years compared to 64 percent of the placebo treated patients. European Investigator's Meeting in Stockholm 18-19th of September
On the 18-19th of September, Diamyd is hosting an Investigator's Meeting for diabetes teams from 20-30 European clinics from several countries, which will take part in the European Phase III study with the Diamyd diabetes vaccine for new onset type 1 diabetes patients. The trial will enrol more than 300 patients. Gathering all investigators in one place will ensure the trial is carried out in a uniform way across all sites and countries. A similar meeting was held in April for all the Swedish Investigators which was very successful.

The company Emergent BioSolutions has announced a bid on Protein Sciences, a company of which Diamyd Medical owns 6,7% of the shares. The 23rd of June 2008 the proposal was supposed to be put up for approval for the shareholders in Protein Sciences. However, the shareholders meeting was postponed due to a variety of reasons, including that notice of the meeting was not adequate.

Diamyd has received the first US institutional ethic's committee approval, for the type 1 diabetes Phase III trial. Several more are under review and can expected shortly.

Everything remains on track and continues as planned.

In May Emergent BioSolutions announced a bid on Protein Sciences, a company of which Diamyd Medical owns 6,7% of the shares. Yesterday, the 23rd of June 2008 the proposal was supposed to be put up for approval for the shareholders in Protein Sciences. However the shareholders meeting was postponed and a new date has not been announced yet.

The third day at ADA has been earmarked for meetings with specialists and professors for more detailed information and discussions about the Phase III trials. Representatives from Diamyd have also met up with both European and American opinion leaders within the Type-1 Diabetes society. This day will end with the session "Type-1 Diabetes prevention" chaired by Professor Jerry Palmer.

Most practical routines and processes are set and vendors such as the global central laboratory, the clinical drug supply, the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), CRO, Site Monitoring, Data Management and Safety are now in place and routines are finalized.
