Diamyd research well-represented at respected international diabetes conference.
Results from clinical studies with the Diamyd® diabetes vaccine were presented to the gathered European diabetes expertise at the annual meeting of the EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes), which concluded earlier today.

In a well attended poster session on Monday, Carl-David Agardh presented the 5 year results from Diamyd's first Phase II trial with 47 LADA patients. His conclusion was that Diamyd® treatment appears safe long term and seem able to prevent LADA patients from progressing to a state requiring insulin therapy. Only 14 percent of the patients in the 20 µg Diamyd® dose group required insulin treatment after 5 years compared to 64 percent of the placebo treated patients. The presentation was well received and the next step will be for Professor Agardh and his colleagues to submit the results for publication in a scientific journal.

In the same session, Mikael Chéramy and Stina Axelsson from the group of Johnny Ludvigsson at Linköping University presented one poster each regarding a sub-set of immunological findings in Diamyd's Phase II trial in type 1 diabetes patients. They quickly ran out of printouts of their posters due to the strong interest from the audience.

In addition, during a symposium on Sunday, Professor Ludvigsson presented the clinical results from Diamyd's Phase II trial in type 1 diabetes and the ongoing Phase III program
